Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert Returns to the Podium at Denver EnduroCross
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert Returns to the Podium at Denver EnduroCross
Irvine, Calif. (October 14, 2013) – Round 4 of the AMA EnduroCross series took place in the frigid National Western Complex in Denver, Colo., on Saturday. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert pushed through the 10-lap main event to finish on the podium in third place after chasing the leaders for much of the main. Teammate Justin Soulé finished strong after a great qualifying hot lap and took the checkered flag in seventh. Destry Abbott rode consistent throughout the night show and was able to make some last lap passes to take ninth place in the main event after being shuffled back early in the race. Now past the hallway point, Robert sits third overall in the points standings.
Last Lap
Returning from two weeks in Italy where he finished as top American at the 2013 International Six Days Enduro, Robert had very little time to transition back to EnduroCross and his KX™250F. He didn’t skip a beat though, as he came out in the night show and easily won his heat race. He had third gate pick for the main event following his hot lap, but Robert got caught up in the first turn and the leaders were able to build a gap. Robert stayed on the leaders heels the entire 10-lap main and on the final lap was able to make an aggressive pass on the points leader to take the third and final spot on the podium.

“It was an awesome race,” said Robert. “I felt good all day and my qualifying times were up there. In the heat race I was smooth and took the win, but in the main I rushed a little bit at the start and made some mistakes. I was more consistent towards the end and was able to get Mike Brown on the last lap. This is where I belong. I need to be on the podium from here on out.”
Consistent
Soulé was looking to build from his performance in Ontario and was visibly more aggressive on the track in Denver. He got a good start in his heat race and rode a mistake-free race to take second and transfer directly into the main event. He used his smooth and precise technique to earn sixth gate pick after the hot laps and came around the first turn mid-pack. Soulé fought hard at the tail end of the leaders and was always within striking distance, but a few aggressive moves dropped him to seventh at the line.

“There was a lot of good racing out there,” said Soulé. “I continued to feel more comfortable pushing the pace and was able to stay right with the leaders the entire main event. The dirt here is so good, it really makes for great racing and lots of lines to keep the racing close and fun.”
Father and Son
This season Abbott has been serving double duty at EnduroCross. Not only is he racing and competing with the worlds best, he’s also helping his son Cooper race in the amateur day program. After wrenching for Cooper all day, it was Destry’s turn to show him how it’s done. Destry missed qualifying from the heat races but was able to grab to the last spot from the LCQ. He turned it around when his hot lap put him eighth fastest and got a great jump out of the gate. Mistakes early shuffled him back, but Abbott was able to recover and finish in ninth place.

“It’s so great to have Cooper there with me at every round,” said Abbott. “We both help each other throughout the day and work as a great team. It felt great to get in the main event and I plan to only continue to build from here.”
Heading South
With a one-week break in the EnduroCross series, Robert has headed to Ecuador to compete in the grueling Ukupacha Extreme Enduro. It is known as the toughest race in South America, but Robert is known to never back down from a challenge. Round 5 of the AMA EnduroCross series will resume from Everett, Wash., October 26, 2013.
