LOWES SECURES DOUBLE PODIUM AT PORTIMAO
Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) riders Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani faced tough conditions at the Portimão Circuit on Sunday, August 11th, with Lowes delivering strong performances to secure two third-place finishes. Meanwhile, Bassani encountered difficulties, finishing 12th in the Superpole Race and 15th in the final race of the day.
The day began with the ten-lap Superpole Race, where Lowes showcased his skill, finishing third after an intense battle, missing out on the win by just 3.251 seconds. Bassani, who struggled to find his rhythm, finished in 12th place in the sprint race.
Later in the day, Race Two started under slightly cooler track temperatures of 93°F. Lowes quickly established himself as a contender, leading the race on two occasions and engaging in a fierce battle with eventual winner Toprak Razgatlioglu. A dramatic moment unfolded when Razgatlioglu clipped the rear of Lowes' bike on the main straight, losing part of his own bodywork in the process. Despite the incident, Lowes maintained his composure, ultimately securing third place just over six seconds behind the winner.
Bassani's final race of the weekend was a challenging one. He started strong, reaching as high as tenth place, but as the race progressed, he began to experience significant back pain that impacted his pace. Despite his efforts to push through, Bassani eventually dropped to 15th place by the end of the 20-lap race.
