Febvre Kicks Off 2025 MXGP Season with Moto Win and Podium Finish in Argentina

Romain Febvre and the Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP launched their 2025 FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship campaign with a moto win and a second-place overall finish in Córdoba, Argentina. The French rider now sits just one point off the series lead as the championship heads back to Europe.

Febvre showed his speed early, setting the fastest lap on Saturday. In the first moto, he seized the lead at turn two and quickly built a two-second gap by the end of the opening lap. Despite tricky conditions from overnight rain, he remained composed under pressure for 15 minutes before capitalizing on a mistake by his closest rival. From there, he extended his lead and held it to the checkered flag.

In the second moto, Febvre had to fight through traffic after a tough start. He emerged third from the first turn but spent three laps battling to overtake the rider in second. By the time he secured the position, the race leader had already pulled a ten-second gap. Febvre managed to close the deficit by a third but ultimately settled for second, ending the day just one point shy of the championship lead.

KRT teammate Pauls Jonass had a steady debut ride on his Kawasaki. After starting 10th in the opening moto, he maintained position in a tightly packed field. A stronger start in race two saw him hold seventh early on, but he eventually finished ninth after an intense series of battles, securing seventh overall.

With strong performances from both riders, Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP heads into the European rounds with momentum and high expectations for the 2025 season.

Romain Febvre:

"We got lucky with the weather today. The track was muddy this morning, but the sun came out just in time for the first moto, and it dried well. I felt great in the first race, taking the lead early and controlling the pace. My second start wasn’t ideal, and I struggled to get past Guadagnini, which allowed Maxime to pull away. I made up some time, but lapped traffic slowed me down, and I had to settle for second. Still, I’m happy—this is the best start to a season I’ve ever had. The new bike suits me, I feel strong, and I’m ready for the long season ahead. I also hope we come back here next year—I like this track even better than Bariloche."

Pauls Jonass:

"I didn’t get the best start in race one, made some passes on the first lap, but then got stuck in a fast-moving train of riders. My second start was better—I gained some spots, lost some spots, and ended up ninth. Nothing spectacular, just two consistent motos. I picked up some big blisters in race two, but overall, it was good to get the first GP out of the way. After nine months away from racing, I was maybe a little too cautious, but now we move forward."
